Becoming a Freedom Rider: My Life as a Foot Soldier in the Civil Rights Movement

Event Type: Adult Program
Age Group(s): Adults
Date: 5/7/2013
Start Time: 7:00 PM
End Time: 8:30 PM
Description:
SPECIAL EDITION of the “OFF THE SHELF” BOOK CLUB
The year was 1961. The place was the segregated deep south where lynching, klansmen, and Jim Crow laws ruled. Standing up, there was a line of foot soldiers ready to sacrifice their lives for the right to vote, to enter rooms marked 'White Only,' and to live with simple dignity. They were called Freedom Riders, and Thomas M. Armstrong was one of them. Join Mr. Armstrong as he reads from his book and shares his life’s story. Signed copies of Mr. Armstrong’s book will be for sale at this event for those interested.
