Library Director Passing the Torch
Congratulations to Library Director Matthew Suddarth on his upcoming retirement! He has been our Director for more than 22 years, and has
seen the library through our renovation project, the shift to more digital technologies, the rise of eBooks, and much more. During his retirement, he hopes to have more time to travel, visit loved ones, and bike across Illinois’ many beautiful trails.
We’d like to welcome our new Director, Joe Marcantonio! He has been
an innovator in services to teens and young adults, with his most current position being Teen Manager at Schaumburg Township District Library.
We’re glad to welcome him back to Winfield, as he was born and raised here. His first library job was as a page here at Winfield Library, and he’s now married to the woman he was dating back then. They have two
children, ages 4 and 9. We look forward to welcoming Joe to the staff.
Matthew and Joe will be working together throughout June, before Matthew retires at the end of the month. We wish him all the best in his retirement. |

Summer Reading Kickoff Party!
Monday, June 2, 6:30-8:30 p.m.
Join us for the most anticipated library event of the year, our free Ice Cream Social to kick-start our Summer Reading Program, “Level Up at Your Library!” Join your neighbors to enjoy an ice cream treat, as long as supplies last, embark on a scavenger hunt, get a temporary tattoo, and take part in a magic show.
We’re going on a bear hunt! The Kickoff party includes an outdoor scavenger hunt for kids. Pick up a list at the library table and search for items scattered around the library grounds. Complete the hunt and receive a small prize, sticker, or temporary tattoo.
Jaime Aponte’s Amazing Magic Show with Live Animals
7:00-8:00 p.m.
Professional entertainer Jaime Aponte will bring a blend of magic, comedy, and illusion to the party. His act includes three live animals, including a bunny and a trained snake. Be ready for laughs and audience participation! Suitable for kids of all ages, adults, and families. No registration required.
Please park at St. John the Baptist, located at the corner of Sunnyside Avenue and Church Street, 0S233 Church Street. Bring a lawn chair or blanket for the outdoor show in the library parking lot. In case of rain, the magic show will be held indoors. |
