Technical Services & Circulation Assistant

Winfield Public Library is seeking a dependable, detail-oriented Technical Services & Circulation Assistant to join our team. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys both the behind-the-scenes work of a library and helping patrons at the service desk. The Technical Services & Circulation Assistant helps keep our collection organized, accurate, and ready for patrons while providing friendly and helpful customer service throughout the library.
Schedule
The regular schedule for this position is:
- Monday: 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.
- Tuesday: 3:00-9:00 p.m.
- Thursday: 3:00-9:00 p.m.
- Two Saturdays per month: 8:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Services:
- Order books, audiovisual materials, and other library materials.
- Process new and replacement materials for circulation.
- Copy catalog and update MARC records.
- Import catalog records and update OCLC holdings.
- Repair and cover books and audiovisual materials.
- Maintain Technical Services supplies and procedures.
- Track and report repair statistics.
- Perform accurate data entry and catalog maintenance.
Patron Services:
- Provide friendly, helpful service at the circulation desk and throughout the library.
- Check materials in and out and assist patrons with basic circulation needs.
- Help patrons with the library catalog, computers, databases, and other electronic resources.
- Assist with basic reference and readers’ advisory questions.
- Monitor activity in the library and report concerns when appropriate.
- Operate and assist patrons with library equipment following training.
General Library Duties:
- Perform opening and closing procedures as assigned.
- Assist with public service coverage during staff absences and busy periods.
- Attend training and professional development opportunities.
- Follow library procedures and maintain a high level of accuracy and organization.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Technical Services Manager or Library Director.
Qualifications
Preferred:
- Library Technical Assistant certificate.
- Previous library experience, particularly in Technical Services.
- Familiarity with cataloging, RDA, and MARC records.
The successful candidate will have:
- Strong attention to detail and proofreading skills.
- Accurate data entry skills.
- Good organizational and time management skills.
- The ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- The ability to work cooperatively with coworkers and patrons.
- Basic computer skills and the ability to learn new technology and library systems.
The position requires regular movement throughout the library, including reaching shelves and book returns, lifting and moving library materials, and pushing or maneuvering book carts.
What We’re Looking For
We are looking for someone who is reliable, organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable working with both library materials and the public. The ideal candidate can focus on detailed Technical Services work while also providing welcoming and professional service to patrons.
Starting wage: $18.00 per hour
Hours: 20 hours per week
Schedule: Monday 9-3, Tuesday and Thursday 3-9, plus two Saturdays 8:30-5 per month
