We have three positions available as of 5/10/2024:

Interlibrary Loan Assistant

  • This position is responsible for the acquisition of Interlibrary Loan items, the returning of those items to their lending libraries, and statistical reporting 

  • Additional responsibilities of the position include:
    • Circulation - Perform circulation tasks including check in and check out procedures, handling reserves, and fees
    • Patron Assistance - Provide patron circulation services at the front desk and within the library
    • Assist patrons with readers' advisory queries, general library procedures, and availability of resources in other libraries or institutions, and basic reference questions
    • Assist patrons in the use of catalog, online databases, and Internet resources
    • Assist patrons with use of public computers, copier, and printing
    • Refer patron requests to appropriate staff when necessary
  • The successful candidate will have the following qualities:
    • Library Technical Assistant or equivalent education preferred.
    • High School Diploma required
    • Library experience preferred
    • Knowledge of library organization, procedures, and equipment
    • Ability to establish good relationships with patrons both in person and via phone
    • Skills in writing, typing, and with computer and attention to detail
    • Ability to move around the library, reach all shelves and book returns, lift materials and attend to book carts

  • Hours include days, 2 Saturdays per month plus evening hours as needed.
  • Salary starts at $17.00 per hour


Circulation Assistant

  • The successful candidate will have the following qualities:
    • High school degree required.
    • Library experience preferred.
    • Knowledge of library organization, procedures, and equipment.
    • Ability to establish good relationships with patrons both in person and via phone.
    • Skills in writing, typing, and with computer and attention to detail.
    • Ability to move around the library, reach all shelves and book returns, lift materials and attend to book carts.

  • Responsibilities of the position include:
    • Circulation - Perform circulation tasks including check in and check out procedures, handling reserves, and fees.
    • Patron Assistance - Provide patron circulation services at the front desk and within the library.
    • Assist patrons with readers' advisory queries, general library procedures, and availability of resources in other libraries or institutions, and basic reference questions.
    • Assist patrons in the use of catalog, online databases, and Internet resources.
    • Assist patrons with use of public computers, copier, and printing.
    • Refer patron requests to appropriate staff when necessary.
    • Process new library card applications.
    • Backup page duties - Clean AV items, shelve as needed, empty book-drop, help with technical services processing.

  • Hours include days, 2 Saturdays per month plus evening hours as needed.
  • Salary starts at $17.00/hour.


Library Assistant (Page)

  • Duties include shelving materials, checking materials in and out, covering books, and other miscellaneous duties.
  • The successful applicant must be able to pass a shelving test, read small print, and have the physical dexterity to reach shelves of various heights and push heavy carts.
  • Applicant must be at least 16.
  • Hours include 2 evenings per week from 5 p.m. - 9 p.m. and 1-2 Saturdays per month from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
  • Salary starts at $15.00/hour.



Volunteer Opportunities

The Winfield Library Friends are always looking for new faces to fill their many volunteer opportunities throughout the year.

Below are just a few of the abundant opportunities to help the Friends support the Library:

  1. Book Sale: sort and sell books (Friends who do get first choice!)
  2. Hospitality: provide refreshments for programs
  3. Fundraising: donations, prizes for special events
  4. Publicity: making signs/posters, writing newsletters, mailings, graphic design
  5. Books to the Homebound
  6. WLF Officers and chairpersons
